The Dunes Officially Open!

The Dunes Officially Open – A Historic Day for Our Club
What an unforgettable day we had celebrating the official opening of The Dunes – our spectacular new putting green, and one of the largest golf greens in the world!
We were honoured to have an incredible line-up of speakers join us for the occasion. Club General Manager, Mike Williams opened the ceremony, followed by Club President, Bryn Williams, Jared Baronian– CEO of our major sponsor The Pitau and Mayor Mahé Drysdale, who had the honour of cutting the ceremonial gold ribbon. We’re also deeply grateful to Ngai Tukairangi Hapu for blessing the green in such a special and meaningful way.
A great moment came when Course Superintendent Blair Dibley cut the ceremonial hole, allowing our Junior Club Champion, Nero Souter, to take the very first putt on The Dunes. That moment was followed by life members Merle Halligan, Raymond Horsfall, and Owen Kendall each having a putt of their own – a wonderful nod to the generations of members who have shaped our club’s legacy.
Even the weather played its part – drying just in time for speeches and giving way only to a light drizzle once the green officially opened. It was fantastic to see so many of you out there, putters in hand, exploring this amazing new feature of our club.
A big thank you to Titleist for providing a range of brand-new season putters for members to trial – a real treat on such an outstanding surface.
The Dunes is not only a stunning addition to our course but a place for members of all ages and abilities to come together and enjoy the game we all love. We can’t wait to see it in full use throughout the seasons ahead.
See you out on the green!
